The 3rd Conference among Social Work Students from Mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong was organized by Kaohsiung County Social Workers Association with topic on “The Prevention and Treatment for Family Violence”. It was held successfully on 17 to 21 Aug 2009. Delegation consists of 15 Social Work students and 2 Council Members participated in the Conference on behalf of the Association. In order to equip them with the basic knowledge of the topic, three workshops were held. Apart from the training on their Mandarin and presentation skills, a special talk on Hong Kong Family Violence was conducted. We had invited Ms. Shirley NG, the Centre Senior Manager of the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, to deliver the talk. She shared with participants on the latest circumstances of family violence, related services provided, practical skills on handling family crisis situations and the role of social workers in such situations. Participants could be well prepared before meeting with other participants in the other three regions.

As participants were well prepared, Kaohsiung suffered from a serious flood disaster unfortunately.  Every one felt sorrow for the sudden disaster. The five days Conference was not merely contains elements of academic exchange, also elements of humanity contacts.  The organizer invited several Professors from different Universities for delivering Seminar on topics related to Family Violence and its policy. Also, participants were arranged to visit the local Family Court and join the sharing session in which participants among four regions shared the local family issues. Besides, participants were arranged to visit the Disaster Resources Centre and helped to convey the materials. They were very much impressed though they are not suffering from the Disaster. They experienced an unforgettable and valuable lesson through all those seminars, visits, sharing sessions and the voluntary work.
